THROUGH MY KITCHEN WINDOW

‘Through my Kitchen Window’ is a visual journey of everyday lives of the women in Messejana, a small village in Alentejo, Portugal. This documentary series is a personal memoir of my interactions with these women, where I,  the photographer, also become an intimate part of their narratives as these women share slices of their lives with me.

Windows, in the world of photography, have often been approached and photographed from outside- a voyeuristic perspective, a third person (usually the photographer) whose unseen presence becomes very instrumental and hard to ignore in the photographs. So, ‘Through My Kitchen Window’ turns the lens inside these homes, where I too became an intimate part of these homes as the women share the slices of their lives with me. I am not just an onlooker. This helps me uncover layers of their daily lives and discover the beauty of relationships they share with themselves and their craft, how food and kitchen becomes a haven for healing and connection in an ever aging, transient world.

the EXHIBITION
